Sopiago Springs (Pioneer) - Meeting and Tour

The August 27, 2011 meeting will be at the Sopiago Springs Resort near Pioneer.

Sopiago Springs Resort was founded by one of the co-owners of Pashnit Motorcycle Tours and has miles of dualsport and dirt tracks.  Friday night camping is available for $10 per tent and Cook’s Station on Hwy 88, about 3 miles from the campsite, is available for dinner on Saturday.  Resort locaton and descriiption is at: http://www.riderplanet-usa.com/atv/trails/info/california_14146/ride_1cda.htm.

Our tour for August 27  will start at Shari’s in Livermore (1116 E. Stanley Blvd). Breakfast at Shari’s is at 08:00 and the ride will start when we finish, between 08:30 and 09:00.

We head south on Mines Road to the Junction for our first break.  Then east on Del Puerto Canyon, across I-5 and into Turlock for a break at the Turlock Central Park before turning north.  We’ll be riding across the covered bridge at Robert’s Ferry (Photo Op) and then to the historic McCarty Copper Inn located in, where else, Copperopolis.  Continuing on Hwy 4 to Pool Station Rd we ride along the Calaveras River and north on Hwy 49 for lunch at Frank’s Café in Mokelumne Hill (5 stars on urbanspoon!).  Our destination, Sopiago Springs Resort, is roughly 40 miles of great mountain roads (all paved) from Frank’s, and we’ll have a fuel stop along the way.

The August meeting and campout will be on August 27, 2011 at the  Sopiago Springs Resort in Pioneer, CA.

July Campout - Mariposa

The meeting/camping site for the July 2011 meeting will be at the Mariposa Fairgrounds in Mariposa, California, July 30th, 5pm.

For anyone who missed the 49er, this is another chance to enjoy a great camping venue and some great roads.  We will be camping in the large area that was the Bier Garten at the 49er.  It is grassy, flat and shaded with picnic tables and restrooms/showers nearby.

Camping fees come back this year and will be $5.00 for members and $10.00 for non-members.  Friday camping is available for the same $5.00 for members and $10.00 for non-members.

As an added attraction, the Friends of NRA are having their annual dinner in Building A on Saturday evening.  Flyers are posted on the NorCal website with details and you can signup online at the Mariposa Fish and Game site if interested.  There are also plenty of restaurants in Mariposa, and water at the fairgrounds if you plan to cook.

The tour will start at Flames in San Jose; 1812 Hillsdale Avenue, San Jose, CA 95124.  Figure breakfast at 8AM and the tour starting when we finish, about 9AM. We'll head south past Quicksilver and Uvas reservoirs and take a bio-break in Gilroy before heading East in 152 past the San Luis Reservoir and into Los Banos for a break.  Then we'll go though Firebaugh and into Madera for lunch at Cool Hand Luke's.  Fuel is available right across the street for those with smaller tanks.  

After lunch we'll head east and north past the Hensley Lake Recreation area and come into Mariposa from the north so we can do a final fuel stop at the Texaco at the north end of town before arriving at the fairgrounds.  There is a grocery store right behind the gas station if anyone wants to purchase food or drinks.

The ride is about 218 miles and should take us 5 to 6 hours depending on how long the breaks are; getting us to the fairgrounds by 2 or 3 with plenty of time to get rowdy before the meeting.

July Campout - Mariposa

The July members meeting and campout will be at The Mariposa Fairgrounds on July 30, 2011. 

We have a grass area near where the 49er Beer Garden was staged. More details on the tour when availalbe.

Also note: the Fairgrounds has another event going on that weekend (NRA). See the attachedments for details.

Tour to Fort Bragg - June 25

This month’s tour will leave from the Dipsea Café in Mill Valley at 9am on Saturday, June 25th, 2011. There is gas nearby, along with a Starbuck’s, for those who want to forgo breakfast.

The campout will be held at Leisure Time RV Park, located 2 miles east of Highway 1 near Ft. Bragg. There are hot showers, firewood and ice are available.

The election meeting will be held at the North Coast Brewing Co. The rear meeting room will be available at 4:30pm and the meeting starts at 5pm.

If you are a "new to the club" rider and would like to join our group ride, please check in with the tour captain at the start of the ride. Club members and guests are reminded to ride their own pace and maintain a safe and courteous awareness of all riders on the tour. Please have a full tank of gas and be ready to ride at the above departure time.

Fort Bragg Meeting Campout - June 25

The campout will be held at Leisure Time RV Park, located 2 miles east of Highway 1 near Ft. Bragg.  There are hot showers, firewood and ice are available.

The election meeting will be held at the North Coast Brewing Co., 455 Main Street, Ft. Bragg, CA 95437, 707-964-2739.  The rear meeting room will be available at 4:30pm and the meeting starts at 5pm.

Whiskeytown - April 23rd

Although April showers may bring May flowers, we can all hope the showershave subsided for awhile… This month’s meeting takes us to Whiskeytown Reservoir – the Dry Creek Group Campground – west of Redding on Highway 299. The tour will have a “different” leader this month, Pat Booth, who is filling in as Tour Captain. She hopes to lead a relaxed and uneventful ride.

The tour will leave from the parking lot of Huckleberry’s Restaurant, in the Wood Creek Plaza, in Fairfield at approximately 9am. The street address is 3101Travis Blvd and the cross street is Olive. The restaurant opens at 7 and is popular with the locals. There are several other restaurants nearby, along with a selection of gas stations, so plan on being ready to go at 9 o’clock.

Once you are in the neighborhood of Whiskeytown Reservoir, from Hwy 299 turn onto Kennedy Memorial Drive. Go past the Visitor’s Center, across the spillwayand then proceed about 5 miles down South Shore Drive to the Dry Creek Campground turnoff (on the Right hand side of the road).

The tour will take the scenic route north, bypassing the freeway. With the weather co-operating, we will head north on Pleasants Valley Road to Road 89 outside Winters. After that point the tour route is still being planned. Tentatively, we areplanning on having lunch in Red Bluff around 1pm.

Morro Bay Campout Cancelled

The weather forecast for the weekend is not conducive to safe riding. The chance of rain and/or snow would make the ride home on Sunday treacherous so, the campout is cancelled.

The membership meeting will take place at the Alpine Inn at 2:00PM on Saturday February 26, 2011.

Morro Bay - Feb 26

The February Members Meeting and Campout will be at Morro Bay State Park (Group Site GCHO) at 4pm on Saturday Feb 26. The Morro Bay ride will be leaving from Denny's at 8425 San Ysidro, Gilroy on February 26th at 9:00am. 

Weather permitting there we will do Carmel Valley Road down to Hunter Ligget and out the the coast where we will take HW1 down the coast.

Show up with a full tank of gas, check your tires and oil, and remember to gas up when the group gases up. Ride a safe ride and always ride within your limits. For this ride you also need to bring your license, registration, and proof of insurance. Hunter Ligget is a military base and these items are required to enter the base.

Location Change - January 29th - Sunset Beach in Moss Landing

There has been a change in plans for the January ride and meeting location.

The January Club meeting is being moved to Sunset Beach in Moss Landing. The beach is 16 miles south of Santa Cruz along HW1 and San Andreas road.

The ride will be leaving from Alice's Restaurant... at HW 84 & HW35 in Woodside at 9:30 on Jan 29th.

The camp site is Sunset State Beach GSUN, GA-SUNSET-GRP. Be prepared to pay a vehicle fee. For members this is reimbursable, save your receipt and give it to Russ.
