Second Sunday Breakfast Ride on April 13 (Over the Caldecott Tunnel)

Lee Blake has planned a great breakfast meeting and ride for April:
The Waffle Shop, 2727 Pinole Valley Rd, Pinole, CA 94564 ph510-758-6171 (meet at 8:30am).

The name Pinole Valley derives from "pinole", a Native American word for a kind of flour made from the seeds of maize, chia, and various other grasses and annual herbs. An expedition under Don Pedro Fages was said to have run out of provisions while exploring the area, and been fed pinole by a local village, and so the Spaniards named their camp "El Pinole".

After breakfast we’ll do a casual ride south along a few of the scenic canyons and crests.  Most of us have gone thru the Caldecott Tunnel, but how many have ridden over it?  Roughly 43 miles of picturesque curves and twisties ending in Castro Valley not far from 580.

March 9 Second Sunday Breakfast and Ride

March 9, 2008 at 8:30 AM
Country Inn Cafe, 6484 Camden Ave. San Jose, CA 95120 ph.408-997-9300

Omelette souffles, blintzes, waffles, Swedish pancakes and lots of breakfast specials; yum.  (menu pdf)

Breakfast will be followed by an "Over the river and thru the woods" ride of about 46 miles that includes 5 of our local reservoirs and 6 local parks.
Much of the route runs along streams or creeks that are all flowing due to the recent rains.  The ride ends at a gas station in Cupertino near the 280 & 85 junction to make it easy for folks to get gas if needed and then head home.  Total ride is less than 2 hours including bio-breaks.

Second Sunday Breakfast Ride on Feb 10

Flames Coffee Shop of Milpitas, 1191 E Calaveras Blvd, Milpitas, CA 95035 408-262-2005.
Breakfast will be followed by a short ride up Sierra and Calaveras.  The ride up Sierra is great, climb nearly 2,000 feet in 10-15 minutes and look back over the entire valley.  Calaveras follows the west side of the reservoir north thru the Sunol Regional Wilderness.  Total ride is about 35 miles and takes less than an hour and a half, ending right on 680 to make it easy to hop on the slab and motor on home.

Second Sunday Breakfast Ride on Jan 13

Since it looks like we might get a day without pouring rain on Sunday...
Breakfast at Chow, 53 Lafayette Circle, Lafayette, CA 94549. Ph: 925-962-2469. Followed by a 40 mile ride up Pinehurst and Redwood roads (very pretty, great views) and couple other local roads.

Lee advise's this month's Second Sunday Breakfast will be at Buck’s of Woodside
3062 Woodside Rd
Woodside, CA 94062

For an after breakfast ride - go up Kings Mtn, down Tunitas creek, up the coast, stop in Half Moon Bay for a break, back 92 and past the reservoir, up La Honda to end at Alices Rest for some socializing.  Short, less than 45 miles, but will take a little more than an hour plus break time.  Again:  casual pace, good twisties, nice views.Mayride

Second Sunday Breakfast for May 13

Lee, our Second Sunday Breakfast chairperson has setup the following:
Buck’s of Woodside
3062 Woodside Rd. Woodside, CA 94062. 650-851-8010

My idea for an after breakfast ride will go up Kings Mtn, down Tunitas creek, up the coast, stop in Half Moon Bay for a break, back 92 and past the reservoir, up La Honda to end at Alices Rest for some socializing.  Short, less than 45 miles, but will take a little more than an hour plus break time.  Again:  casual pace, good twisties, nice views.

Second Sunday Breakfast - Date Change for April

The Second Sunday Breakfast has been changed to April 15, 8:30am
Message from Lee:
Doug's Place, 20871 Redwood Rd, Castro Valley, CA 94546. Phone: 510-538-9155
It is back in the rear corner of a small shopping center on the west side of Redwood Road.

If the weather cooperates, I’m planning another short ride after we eat.  We’ll head over to Palomares Road and down to Niles Canyon, across to Vallecitos Road and up Isabel/Kitty Hawk past the Livermore Airport, then west thru the canyons and back Crow Canyon Road to Castro Valley.  The ride is 55-56 miles and will be a leisurely pace thru some very pretty areas.  We’ll be crossing 680 and 580 a couple times, so there are several places along the way to leave the ride and head South/East/North/West.

March 11 Breakfast Ride

Message from Lee:
This Sunday is forecast to be one of the warmest days this year so I’m going to do a short loop (~80 Miles / 2 hours) from the Shell gas station (on the corner by the Diner of Los Gatos) down to Bonny Doon Beach, past Big Basin Park and back to Los Gatos, ending at the same Shell station (see attached). There are lots of twisties but it’s an easy ride and I plan a couple stops.

Since we had some comments about adding a short ride to the Sunday Breakfasts……I’ll bring some of these maps with me and anyone is welcome to ride along.Marchloop
